Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe wins 2014 North American Kringle Competition

Congratulations to Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe in DePere, Wisconsin, which was the winner of the North American Kringle Competition on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at HotelRED in Madison, Wisconsin.

The North American Kringle Competition was a special feature of the debut party for Eat Smart in Denmark, a culinary guide to Danish cuisine co-authored by Carol Schroeder of Orange Tree Imports and her daughter Katrina.

Carol Schroeder informs The Danish Pioneer Newspaper that about 200 people attended the Sunday event in Madison, and there were over 150 votes for the People’s Choice.

The People’s Choice went to the same bakery that won the professional judging: Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe in DePere, Wisconsin.  Their award-winning kringle was the “Sea Salt Caramel Pecan Kringle”. To learn more about the bakery, visit www.unclemikesbakeshoppe.com.

Carol says that the owners Mike and Mary VandeWalle are thrilled to be the champions and one reason that they won is that the bakery uses European-style butter. Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe is also in the process of the establishing a new website www.awardwinningkringle.com, so everyone can have a chance to order the kringle. Please tell Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe that you heard about them from The Danish Pioneer Newspaper.

All of the entries in the competition were delicious, and all of the bakeries are to be congratulated and thanked for participating!
