Andersonville in Chicago: The Place for Scandinavian Gifts
’Tis the season to think about gifting –
The Kerstin Andersson Store in the Swedish American Museum in Chicago has been decked out in a colorful array of Scandinavian items just right for brightening up the home during the Christmas season or for remembering friends and family with gifts under the tree.
In addition to longer daily store hours through the end of December, the Museum will present its annual Julmarknad, the traditional Christmas bazaar, all day Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7, 2014.
Holiday discounts will be offered on items in the store, while a dozen vendors’ booths will fill the first floor gallery. Performances by musicians, singers and dancers are scheduled throughout both days.
A Julmarknad Preview Sale will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, December 5, as the Museum participates in Late Night Andersonville activities among businesses in the Clark Street-Foster Avenue neighborhood.
Also available in the Museum are the colorful “Bluescapes of Sweden” paintings and prints by Swedish artist Ariana Ramhage. The exhibit has been displayed in the first floor gallery since September 12 and is scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 30.
Swedish visitors to the Museum have remarked about Ramhage’s scenes from the homeland that they recognize. Individuals already have reserved more than a third of these works for purchase at the end of the exhibition.
