CALIFORNIA NEWS: Sankt Hans Fest planned Saturday, June 20 in Andy’s Garden in Artesia

By Arne Brinkland, Secretary, Danish National Committee of Southern California –

The Danish American Club in Orange County is arranging a traditional “Sankt Hans” & bonfire event on Saturday, June 20, 2015.

In memory of Andy Andersen, his daughter Lisa and son-in law Steve have again graciously opened up their home and garden in Artesia, California.

This strange Nordic summer Solstice tradition, properly had its beginning in the mid 16th Century.  But it also celebrates the longest Nordic daylight hours of the year, and signals the coming of summer and the long wonderful warm summer days and the late setting sun, shining to midnight in the northern night skies, days and nights made for song and dance, love and mischief. A small bonfire will be lit just after sundown.
