1st Annual Nisse 5K Polar Run held in the Danish Villages in Iowa

During Julefest 2013 in the Danish Villages in western Iowa, November 30, 2013 at 8 a.m. brought the 1st Annual Naughty or Nisse 5k Polar Run from the Little Mermaid in Kimballton, Iowa to Elk Horn’s Danish Windmill (opposite of Tivoli Fest). It was fun with surprises on each end.

A nisse is a Danish elf and they are reported to be running around at Christmas time in the Danish Villages. For the runners, there were 3 categories for prizes: Best Nisse (Elf), Best Costume and Most Original or Crazy.

Peppermint Patties were served at the start (Mermaid Fountain in Kimballton) and Hot Chocolate or Glögg at the Finish Line (Danish Windmill/Vikinghjem in Elk Horn). A Danish film crew was again in town filming.
