From Norway to Chicago: 1893 Viking Ship officially transferred from the Chicago Park District to the Friends of the Viking Ship

The Viking, a 78-foot-long Viking ship that sailed from Norway to Chicago to be exhibited at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, was officially transferred from the Chicago Park District to the trusteeship of Friends of the Viking Ship, NFP (FOVS) when, in a Chancery Division courtroom, Honorable Sophia H. Hall executed court approval of an Agreed Order on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington Street, Chicago, IL 60602. This final step in the transfer empowers Friends of the Viking Ship to pursue significant funds and grants for the preservation and housing of this magnificent historical artifact.
