“A Royal Affair”, Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Nominated for an Oscar
“A Royal Affair” was a 2013 nominee for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 24, 2013. The striking fact-based period drama, directed by Nikolaj Arcel, is inspired by the late-18th-century romance between the English Princess who became Denmark’s queen and the German doctor who attended her royal husband. “A Royal Affair” features Alicia Vikander of “Anna Karenina” as Princess Caroline Mathilde and Danish heartthrob Mads Mikkelsen as the physician Johann Friedrich Struensee. Against the evolving backdrop of the Enlightenment, the illicit lovers persuade the king to implement their revolutionary ideals, all within an aura of passion and intrigue.
