Spring is almost here, and the following events are planned for the Danish Society of Massachusetts during March. Come join the fun. Contact the Society on any one of the addresses below for membership information.
“Fastelavn er mit navn….” – Children’s Costume Party
It’s time to celebrate fastelavn. Decorate “fastelavnsris”, be part of the procession, eat “fastelavnsboller” and “slå katten af tønden” (hit the barrel).
Time: Saturday March 9th 2-4 pm in Nordic Hall
Place: Scandinavian Living Center 206 Waltham St., West Newton.
Price $5 pr. person for signed up members (kids under 2 are free) and $7 pr. person for non-members and at the door.
We need help this year to be able to hold the event. We need 3 people to set up, 2 to lead the procession, 2×3 people to supervise the barrel hitting (one team for the young kids and one for the older kids) and finally 3 people to clean up. Feel free to volunteer for several tasks, as long as they donít overlap!
We also ask that families bring along enough “ris” (branches) for the kids in their own family.

Danish Society Annual Meeting 2013, March 17 at 7:00 PM
Dear members & would-be members,
The annual meeting is being held at The Danish Pastry House, 330 Boston Avenue, Medford, MA, on Sunday March 17, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Did YOU remember to pay your membership fee, so you can vote? You can still make it! Please contact the Society on the address below to become a member! You won’t regret it, Ulla’s smørrebrød & wienerbrød is something to write home about! Danish company is good too… PLEASE RSVP, asap! We need 15 members to hold a meeting.
The Danish Society of MA is growing, our events have been very successful and we have started several new programs over the last couple of years. In order to continue to offer these events and to keep up our communications with our members, it is imperative that we get some assistance. We STILL NEED ONE MORE designated, resourceful MEMBER, that would like to be part of the BOARD. We typically have 4 meetings per year and the Board participates in the planning and partakes in our bigger events. In addition most of the Board members will handle a different aspect of the Board such as secretary, treasurer, and president.
