Denmark highlighted in Chicago this Winter 2013-2014 during ‘Music & Masquerades: A Festival of Danish Art and Culture’ with Carl Nielsen’s famous ‘Maskarade’ to be featured

VOX 3 Collective Presents Music & Masquerades:  A Festival of Danish Art & Culture –

Chicago Vocal Music Ensemble Presents Multi-Faceted Festival  during Winter 2013-2014 –

VOX 3 Collective, an organization that presents both rare repertoire and undisputed masterpieces of vocal art music, will present a series of events called Music & Masquerades: A Festival of Danish Arts and Culture in Chicago this winter. This festival will feature performances and educational programs celebrating the music and culture of Denmark and its northern European neighbors, including Norway, Sweden, and Germany. The festival will kick off with a December Christmas program, with continuing events, in various Chicago-area venues, January through March 2014 (see exact dates listed below, and visit www.vox3.org for additional programming).

The centerpiece of the festival, with multiple performances January 18 – 25, will be the Chicago premiere of Carl Nielsen’s Maskarade, an engaging and amusing comedy reminiscent of Die Fledermaus and Le nozze di Figaro. Considered Denmark’s national opera, it is a fully staged performance by members of VOX 3 Collective and the Lakeview Orchestra, conducted by Gregory Hughes and directed by Sally Eames & Brandon Hayes.

This project is partially supported by a CityArts Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events and a grant from The Chicago Community Trust. For 97 years, The Chicago Community Trust, our region’s community foundation, has connected the generosity of donors with community needs by making grants to organizations working to improve metropolitan Chicago. In 2011, the Trust, together with its donors, granted more than $130 million to nonprofit organizations. From strengthening schools to assisting local art programs, from building health centers to protecting the safety net for those hardest hit by the recession, the Trust continues to enhance our region.
