100,000 spectators expected for Norwegian Constitution Day Parade in Brooklyn, NY set for Sunday, May 17, 2015

Spring is here once again, so plan to come out and join your Scandinavian friends in celebrating the 63rd Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade, scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 17th, 2015 at 1:30 pm on Third Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York.

The theme for the 2015 Parade is “Celebrating 1000 Years of Christianity.” Unfortunately, visitors will not have the pleasure of a band from Norway this year but a number of local New York bands will be providing music for the expected 100,000 spectators along the parade route.

Once again participants will be marching on Third Avenue. The lineup will be at 81st Street and Third Avenue, beginning at 12:30 pm. The parade will step off promptly at 1:30 pm rain or shine and proceed north along Third Avenue to 69th Street. There participants will make a right turn and march up 69th Street to Fifth Avenue. At Fifth Avenue participants will make a left turn and march to 67th Street, where they will make a right turn and march up 67th Street past the grandstand, which will be located on the south side of Leif Erikson Park between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.

A short program will follow the parade. The guest speaker will be Jon Dohlin, Director of the NY Aquarium. Greetings from local representatives will also be heard. As part of the pre-parade festivities, the Church Group of the 17th of May Committee will hold its annual 17th of May Church Rally on Saturday, May 2nd at 6:30 pm at the Norwegian Christian Home located at 1250 67th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11219. The rally program will feature Pastor Doug Thuen, of the Sparta Evangelical Free Church as the guest speaker. Musical selections will also be performed. A freewill offering will be received and refreshments will be served following the program.
