#3 The Danish Pioneer’s Highlights of 2013: Spring in New Jersey and New York with Rebild National Park Society – the Danish-American Friendship Organization Since 1912
By Linda Steffensen, The Danish Pioneer Newspaper’s Editor –
Each spring, Rebild National Park Society, Inc. – the Danish-American Friendship Organization since 1912 – holds its annual membership meetings and tours somewhere in the USA.
During the April 23 – 28, 2013 Rebild Annual Meeting on the East Coast, hosted by the Delaware Valley and New York Metropolitan Rebild Chapters, members enjoyed tours, meetings, lunches, dinners and the Rebild Gala.
Besides several days of meetings for the national board members, chapter presidents and members, some of the highlights of the local tours were:
* Day 1: A visit to the scenic High Line Park in New York City, a Dim Sum Lunch at the Golden Unicorn Restaurant in Chinatown, a relaxing stop at the Danish Seamen’s Church in Brooklyn for coffee and cake, and a tour of the Museum of Jewish Heritage near Battery Park with a view of the Statue of Liberty.
* Day 2: A full day tour to the Culinary Institute of America, West Point and The Brotherhood Winery.
* Day 3: Lunch at Rat’s Restaurant in Hamilton, NJ located on the property of the spectacular “Grounds of Sculpture”, a 42-acre park featuring more than 270 outdoor sculptures.
All of these tour stops are highly recommended.
During the Rebild Gala on the final evening on April 27, 2013, Rebild National Park Society gave a warm and heartfelt farewell to its National President Karl K. Nielsen and First Lady Martha Nielsen upon Karl’s retirement at the Rebild Annual Membership Meeting at the Hyatt in Morristown, New Jersey.
Karl was recognized and thanked for his many years of service to the Danish-American Friendship Organization by new Rebild President Jesper Jespersen, and Karl received the added award of being named as an “Honorary Rebild Member” by the Rebild National Board of Directors plus he received a painting created by artist Birgit Jacobsen.
The 2014 Rebild National Park Society Annual Meeting will be held in Solvang, California on April 2nd – 6th and the big Rebild Festival will be held in Denmark on July 4th.
New members are always welcome!
