A TRIBUTE TO PRINTERS: Thank You For Your Support of The Danish Pioneer in 2014
By Linda Steffensen, The Danish Pioneer Newspaper’s Editor –
One of my favorite stained glass panels in the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows on Navy Pier’s lower level in Chicago was the beautiful “Printer’s History” by Thomas Augustin O’Shaughnessy.
After 14 years at Navy Pier, The Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows has now closed in October 2014 due to Navy Pier renovations, but the Richard H. Driehaus Gallery of Stained Glass will remain open with 11 Louis Comfort stained glass windows.
The “Printer’s History” was in honor of the memory of Henry Olendorf Shepard, Printer and Founder of the Inland Printer Technical School.
The bottom panel of the large stained glass window reads:
In Honor of Printers – Past, Present and to Come –
The Multipliers of Recorded Thought,
Carrying Down the Centuries the Evidence of Man’s
Advancement in Knowledge –
The Heralds of Peace and Good Will –
The Conservators of Wisdom – the Antagonists of Error –
The Champions of Good Works –
The Glorifiers of Achievement –
The Preservers of Art, The Promoters of Culture.
With this, I thank you all for your support of The Danish Pioneer Newspaper in 2014 and we look forward to an exciting 2015. The Danish Pioneer celebrates its 143rd anniversary in the new year and we’re racing towards our 150th anniversary in less than a decade – with your help and support! Happy New Year from Chicago!
