American musician Dwight Lamb receives a medal from Danish National Folk Musicians
On Friday, May 22, 2015, Dwight Lamb from Iowa, USA became the first foreigner ever to receive the silver award from the Danish National Folk Musicians (Danmarks Rigsspillemænd)!
Dwight’s grandfather came to the USA in 1893, he was a musician from the northern Danish region of Vendsyssel and he brought a big repertoire of Danish folk music with him. Most of that repertoire was lost in Denmark, while luckily Dwight and his grandfather kept it alive in the Midwest for more than a 100 years! That’s why Mr. Dwight Lamb deserves this award more than any one else!
The award was handed over with the following words:
“Dwight Lamb, Iowa, diatonic accordion as the fourth generation after musician Kræn Jerup. Along with his grandfather in Iowa, USA, he has with his strong playing kept this unique repertoire from Vendsyssel alive for over a 100 years.”
The festive ceremony took place in Viborg, South Dakota, USA, where Dwight was performing live with the Danish folk music duo Jensen & Bugge.
