American Scandinavian Society in New York offered Brunch & a Tour of the Cloisters on September 28

The American Scandinavian Society in New York planned an outing at the Cloisters on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The group met at the New Leaf Restaurant in Fort Tryon Park at 10:30 am where brunch was served at 11:00 am.

The New Leaf Restaurant is located in a charming 1930 stone cottage in the Park. It has been restored by Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to reclaiming and restoring New York’s parks, gardens and open spaces.

Brunch was $19.95 per person

Following brunch, the group took a short walk to the highest elevation in Manhattan, from there to the Heather Garden and then a short distance to the Cloisters. The Cloisters is a fascinating place devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe that dates from the 12th through 15th century. Audio guides were available for $4.95. The suggested admission was $25.00 and $17.00 for seniors.

By Subway:

Take the A train to 190th Street. Exit station by elevator. Walk across the Ft Tryon Park Circle to the Park’s entrance. A short walk on your left is the New Leaf Restaurant.

By Bus:

The M4 to Ft Tryon Park Circle. Follow directions above. Please be aware that the ride takes a long time.

By Car:

The Henry Hudson Parkway North to the first exit after passing under the GW Bridge to Ft Tryon Park. Free parking is available in the park.
