About the Danish Film A WAR – KRIGEN – 2015, Tobias Lindholm, Denmark, 115 min.WITH PILOU ASBÆK, TUVA NOVOTNY.
As writer of the cult TV series “Borgen” and writer-director of the international hit movie A HIJACKING, Tobias Lindholm has established himself as a specialist in high-pressure situations fraught with thorny moral dilemmas. An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, A WAR centers on Claus Pedersen (movingly portrayed by Asbæk of A HIJACKING and “Game of Thrones”), a conscientious Army officer whose platoon is subjected to harrowing combat conditions in Afghanistan. The narrative alternates between Pedersen at the front and the family he left behind, until a split-second decision has grievous consequences that bring the two worlds of the film together and place him in a situation where there is no right choice — only, at best, a lesser evil. In Danish with English subtitles. Courtesy of Magnolia Pictures. DCP digital. (MR)
