ARCHIVED STORY: Nordic Culinary Conference coming to Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle May 6 – 8, 2016
New Nordic Cuisine has become one of the hottest and most celebrated trends in 21st-century pan-Nordic arts and culture. The movement found its beginnings in 2004 with the renowned New Nordic Kitchen Manifesto, where a commitment was made–by a coalition of pan-Nordic chefs–to freshness, simplicity, health, and the presentation of foods that also reflect the surrounding landscape and seasons.
In celebration of this truly distinct expression of Nordic culture, the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, Washington is pleased to announce its inaugural Nordic Culinary Conference. Participants will be immersed in an experiential program through a series of lectures, demonstrations, and tastings by both Nordic and regional chefs, focusing on this incredible culinary trend.
Presenters include Norwegian chef and host of the acclaimed PBS series New Scandinavian Cooking, ANDREAS VIESTAD, Sweden’s MAGNUS NILSSON, of the internationally renowned restaurant Fäviken, and Finland’s SARA LA FOUNTAIN, also seen on PBS’s New Scandinavian Cooking and the sequel series, A Perfect Day. Sweden’s KALLE BERGMAN (founder of Honest Cooking and the popular Nordic NORTH Festival in NYC) will introduce the program and serve as keynote speaker.
