Chicago Midwest Rebild Chapter holds Summer Luncheon at The Danish Home of Chicago
Saturday, August 9, 2014 marked the date for the Chicago Midwest Rebild Chapter’s Summer Luncheon and Meeting at The Danish Home of Chicago. A great crowd of 40 members and guests enjoyed the delicious Danish open-faced sandwiches, Carlsberg and akvavit. Rebild National Park Society is the Danish-American Friendship Organization established in 1912 with chapters in the USA and Denmark.
Chicago Midwest Rebild Chapter President Paul Roge opened the chapter meeting at 1:05 p.m. and all members were given a folder with the agenda, minutes, membership list, sample Rebild Newsletters, local brochures & postcards and an invitation to “Invite Someone New to Join Rebild”.
Chapter Treasurer Nora Bogehegn gave the treasurer’s report, and the Chicago Midwest Rebild chapter is a strong supporter of Rebild, including the chapter being a $500 x 5 year Rebild Benefactor.
Chapter Secretary Linda Steffensen reported that the April 22-26, 2015 Annual Rebild Membership Meeting will be hosted by the Heartland Rebild Chapter and the Museum of Danish America at the Doubletree Hotel in Omaha, Nebraska with tours of Danish businesses and a chance to see Elk Horn, Iowa. The San Francisco Chapter will host in 2016. Plans for 2017 are still in the works.
Welcome to new Chicago Midwest Rebild member Jean Jackson, and Elizabeth & Linda Steffensen are now Rebild Life Members and they gave a donation to Rebild on July 4, 2014 to honor their parents Chris & Elsa Steffensen as Life Members also. Paul & Shar Roge are also Life Members. Paul read Shar’s letter from the RebildNews encouraging “100 New Life Memberships for the Next 100 Years”. Christine Lundsberg-Geiger donated $1,000 to Rebild as a New Life Member. Thank you, Christine!
Several Rebild members volunteered to help in the “Danish tent” at Scandinavian Day Festival at Vasa Park in South Elgin, Illinois on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. There will be Rebild information and a new Rebild poster at the “Danish tent”. Rebild will also have a table at the Danish Sisterhood National Convention in Colorado in October 2015 and members volunteered to help there.
Al Iversen will continue to chair the U.S. Rebild Nominating Committee and Al told about the responsibilities of national board members. Peter Orum, who recently retired after 6 years on the Rebild National Board, said it is a great experience to serve on the national board, but he also encouraged those elected to participate and be active national board members.
Peter Orum then spoke about the good Rebild Annual Membership Meeting and tour arrangements in Solvang, California in early April. Peter also reported about the warm and sunny Rebild Festival this year. Peder Hoy from California was honored as “Mayor for a Day” in Aalborg and Peter Orum received Rebild’s Top Karens Prize. The September 26 – 28, 2014 Rebild Fall Leadership Meeting will be held at the Danish American Center in Minneapolis, MN.
The next Chicago Midwest Rebild Chapter Regular Luncheon-Meeting is set for Saturday, February 7, 2015. The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m., and Chapter Vice President Lars Rasmussen then showed some wonderful pictures from the 2014 Rebild Festival & Danish Sisterhood tour of Denmark.
