Collages by Liv Grimsby on exhibit in New York through February 17, 2014

Trygve Lie Gallery presents the exhibition HARD (COVER-ED) NARRATIVES – Collages by Liv Grimsby – through February 17, 2014.

Raised in Norway surrounded by “old things”, Liv Grimsby found herself wanting to preserve things in general, books and images in particular, mostly hard cover books, even aging and torn ones. Being part of a new and young nation intensified the need to rewrite the narrative of her identity. Hard (cover-ed) Narratives is a collection of books which can no longer be read, except for the collages of images that has now become the front cover. These reflect the old, the past, the broken ties, and the disconnect with the modern. They may or may not reflect the content of the book they narrate. Hard (cover-ed) Narratives juxtaposes images of the pre-romantic and the material world introducing the modern and old and, and to some degree, bringing the two worlds together. They are a memoir of images that were part of Grimsby’s heritage as well as of her aesthetic evolution.
