Copenhagen Police thank everyone for the assistance

Copenhagen Police would like to express its thanks to everyone who has contributed to the police’s work and investigation in connection with the weekend’s tragic events, in a press release issued February 17, 2015. They have received thousands of calls from the public though 114 and it is estimated that almost 300 calls have had an impact on the investigation. Further, they would like to thank all Twitter users who have retweeded when they have requested them to do so.

“It has been the biggest unexpected police effort in recent times and the effort has involved a big number of police officers from all over the county. The citizens’ information through 114 and their assistance when it comes to sharing information and surveillance pictures on the social media has been a significant help in a difficult situation where time played a significant role. At the same time, it has been a pleasure for us the feel the sympathy and  support that the police has met from all sides. Both from the political side, on the social media, in letters and emails, in the shape of flowers, and in the occasion of the police officers’ daily encounters with the public all over the City. We are happy to inform that all five wounded police officers are now discharged from the hospital. Under the circumstances they are doing well, however, they are of course marked by the events. Our thoughts today go the killed persons’ families who have to live with the tragic and meaningless loss of their beloved ones,” says Thorkild Fogde, Commissioner of Copenhagen Police.

The investigation of the events will continue and, at this time, there is no new information that can be disclosed to the public. If new important information will appear, Copenhagen Police will information the public accordingly, through press communications and Twitter.

“As a result of the weekend’s events, the police is still very present in Copenhagen. Of course, we are in close contact with the Danish Intelligence Service, PET, and Danish National Police as regards the threat assessment and the preparedness level and the effort is continuously being adjusted accordingly. In order to guarantee the citizens’ safety and future events in Copenhagen, we have, so far, decided to maintain a very high police preparedness,” says Torben Mølgård Jensen, Assistant Commissioner of Copenhagen Police.

Of course the press and the public have a big interest in all parts of the police efforts and a complete evaluation of the complex effort will soon be drawn up. Until we have made that evaluation, Copenhagen Police are not able to comment on any particular parts of the operational effort.
