COUNTDOWN: 10 days until first Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen goes into space
Danish Education and Research Minister Esben Lunde Larsen will be sitting in the spaceport in Kazakhstan when Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen on September 2, 2015 will be sent on a 10-day mission to the International Space Station.
The countdown has started for Denmark to get a man into space. On Wednesday morning, September 2, 2015, Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen from the European Space Agency (ESA) will settle in a Soyuz rocket with a Russian and a Kazakh cosmonaut. The launch will take place from the Russian spaceport Baikonur in Kazakhstan. Danish Education and Research Minister Esben Lunde Larsen will be in Kazakhstan to send the first Dane on his trip into space.
The Danish ESA astronaut is already in Baikonur, where he, along with the many who work with the mission, are in isolation to prevent getting sick or risk infecting the rest of the crew of the ISS. Esben Lunde Larsen spoke on the phone with Andreas Mogensen, before leaving for Baikonur, and was very impressed with the 38-year-old Dane.
