Danish Food Book Wins Prize
Eat Smart in Denmark was a Big Winner at the Gourmand Awards in Paris!
Edouard Cointreau, President of Gourmand Awards in Paris, announced recently that Madison, Wisconsin author Carol Schroeder and her co-author (and daughter) Katrina Schroeder’s book Eat Smart in Denmark has been voted the ‘Best American Culinary Travel Book’ in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards!
Their book will now compete against winners in the same category from other countries, and the results will be announced on June 9 at the annual Awards event in Yantai, China.
Eat Smart in Denmark joins another book in the EAT SMART series, Eat Smart in Peru written by publisher Joan Peterson and series editor Brook Soltvedt, both from Madison, which won ‘Best American Culinary Travel Book’ in 2006 and then went on to win ‘Best in the World’ at the Gourmand Awards Ceremony in Beijing.

About the Authors:
Carol “Orange” Schroeder has a B.A. in Danish Studies from Tufts University, including a year at the University of Copenhagen, and an M.A. in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Wisconsin. In addition to running the award-winning gift and gourmet shop Orange Tree Imports for almost 40 years, she is the author of Danish Literature in English Translation and has translated several books.
Katrina Schroeder, RD, LDN took her first trip to Denmark as a toddler, and has returned many times. She worked as a book editor for several years before becoming a registered dietitian. She currently works in nutrition counseling for patients with obesity and eating disorders in Boston.
