Danish papercut artist Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen to participate in Norsk Høstfest in USA
The Danish papercut artist Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen loves to make papercut art and now he is participating in Norsk Høstfest in Minot, North Dakota, which will be held September 29 – October 3, 2015. Norsk Høstfest is the largest Scandinavian festival in North America.
In North Dakota, he will exhibit his papercut arts. In addition, he will teach children and adults how he cuts his quirky papercut beings free from the paper where they have been trapped for some time. Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen comes from Odense in Denmark, which is the birth town of the famous fairytale writer and papercut artist Hans Christian Andersen.
Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen is very much looking forward to participating in Norsk Høstfest, which is North America’s largest festival that celebrates the Scandinavian heritage every year.
“I am simply overwhelmed by the huge interest for Scandinavian culture there is at Norsk Høstfest. And I am really looking forward to showing Danish cultural heritage to participants in at the Høstfest,” says Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen. “I love Hans Christian Andersen very much. This applies to both his fairytales and his wonderful papercut art. With my papercut art, I want to show the world, that the papercut tradition is still alive and doing well in 2015 – even so many years after Hans Christian Andersen made his lovely papercut art.”
The Danish papercut artist has previously traveled the world to show how he creates his paper cut beings from the paper. “I am very interested in other cultures, and I have been to Japan twice, where I have cut in paper with Japanese children and adults. It’s been great experiences, and I am looking forward to learning a lot more about the American people and the American culture,” says Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen.
At Norsk Høstfest, Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen will exhibit his papercut art along with a wide range of other Scandinavian and internationally renowned artists and craftsmen. Under the title “Norsk Høstfest”, artists, including Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen, will travel around in the surrounding area, where they will tell students about Scandinavian heritage. In addition the Danish papercut artist will also teach papercut art for children and young people at Scandinavian Youth Camp that is held in the weekend up to Norsk Høstfest.
Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen regularly holds papercut workshops in Denmark, where the participants – with Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen’s guidance – have the opportunity to put the scissors to paper and create their very own papercut beings. Participants experience the very best of cutting paper – namely the moment when the paper is unfolded and the magic occurs – that is when the happy papercut beings emerge. Torben Jarlstrøm Clausen started out as papercut artist in 2004 at the age of 38 years. Since then he has exhibited in over 100 places and two of them in Japan. He is 50 years old and lives in Odense in Denmark with his wife Lene. They have two girls aged 17 and 21 years.
