Danish soccer team headed to Olympics in Rio in 2016
DIF rejoices over its Olympic ticket for U21 national team –
With a 2-0 win over Serbia in the recent final group match at the European Championships, the Danish U21 team secured not only a place in the semifinals, but also a trip to the Olympics in 2016.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Pione Sisto and all the other players on the U21 national team can look forward to a trip in warmer climates next summer. After the victory over Serbia 2-0 in the last group match, the team not only secured a place on the U21 European Championships, but also a trip to Rio next summer, where the Olympics are being held. Morten Rodtwitt who is chef de mission for the Danish Olympic team in Rio, is looking forward to getting the Danish soccer team to Brazil.
“It’s really great that we now have a Danish men’s national soccer team with again for the Olympics. It is 24 years since it last happened in 1992 in Barcelona. And now soccer with the Danish boys is back again. It’s great for Danish soccer, and it’s great for the total Danish Olympic team because a team sport like soccer creates additional interest and unity, “said Morten Rodtwitt.
Throughout the European Championships tournament, the players’ will and passion for the sport have been easy to spot, and Morten Rodtwitt looks forward to the same determination in Rio.
“I think it’s a very exciting team that now plays for the U21 European Championship, and it has been wonderful to follow their good game and passion about soccer not only now, but throughout qualifying. It is obvious that they love soccer and I also hope that they come to love the Olympics, which is something new for all the players. I wish them every success in the European Championship tournament and welcome the Olympic team,” he says.

Facts about the soccer tournament at the Olympics in Rio:
* It is a U-23 tournament, which means that the players should not be older than 23 years.
* Each team must take three players who are over 23 years old.
* The games will be played at six different stadiums, including the Maracanã.
* There are a total of 16 teams in the Olympic tournament.

Med en 2-0 sejr over Serbien i sidste gruppekamp ved EM sikrede det danske U21-landshold sig ikke bare en plads i semifinalen, men også en tur til OL i 2016.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Pione Sisto og alle de andre spillere på U21-landsholdet kan se frem til en tur under varmere himmelstrøg næste sommer. Efter sejren over Serbien på 2-0 i den sidste gruppekamp har holdet ikke kun sikret sig en plads videre ved U21 EM, men også en tur til Rio næste sommer, hvor OL bliver afholdt. Morten Rodtwitt, der er chef de mission for det danske OL-hold i Rio, glæder sig meget til at få de danske fodbolddrenge med til Brasilien.
“Det er vildt fantastisk, at vi nu har et dansk herrefodboldlandshold med igen til OL. Det er 24 år siden, at det sidst skete i 1992 i Barcelona. Men nu er fodbolddrengene med igen. Det er fedt for dansk fodbold, og det er fedt for det samlede danske OL-hold, fordi en holdsport som fodbold skaber ekstra interesse og sammenhold,” siger Morten Rodtwitt.
Igennem EM-turneringen har spillernes vilje og passion for sporten været let at få øje på, og Morten Rodtwitt ser frem til at sen den samme udstråling i Rio.
“Jeg synes, at det er et meget spændende hold, som nu spiller U21 EM, og det har været skønt at følge deres gode spil og passion omkring fodbolden ikke blot nu, men gennem hele kvalifikationen. Det er tydeligt at se, at de elsker fodbold, og jeg håber også, at de kommer til at elske OL, som er noget helt nyt for alle spillerne. Jeg ønsker dem held og lykke i EM-turneringen og velkommen på OL-holdet,” siger han.
Inden U21-landsholdet kan fokusere på OL, så skal de lige spille semifinale først. Det sker på lørdag klokken 21. Se http://www.dif.dk
Fakta om fodboldturneringen ved OL i Rio:
* Det er en U-23 turnering, hvilket vil sige, at spillerne ikke må være ældre end 23 år.
* Hvert hold må udtage tre spillere, der er over 23 år gamle.
* Kampene vil blive spillet på seks forskellige stadions herunder Maracanã.
* Der er i alt 16 hold med i den olympiske turnering.
