Danish Spoons Coming to the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Massachusetts

Five years ago, Printmaker and Book Artist Annie Silverman was invited to attend summer artist residencies in both Denmark and Ireland.
While in Denmark, she bought some silver plated Danish tea spoons and a soup spoon in a charity shop in Holbæk, as well as an old Danish history school book that still had the scent of tobacco from the drawer in which it must have been kept.
When she arrived in rural Donegal, Ireland, Annie used the spoons in her art making exercise everyday. She made rubbings of them, traced them onto patterned papers, and painted their shapes into the Danish history book.
Later on she created an artist book DANISH SPOONS, which last year was awarded First Prize in the Beyond Books Exhibition in Woodstock, Vermont.
Altered pages from Danish History have been enlarged, scanned and printed for this exhibition.
The exhibition DANISH SPOONS will be on view September/October with a Reception & Artist Talk on Thursday, October 1st, 2015 from 5:30-7:30pm (Talk at 6:30pm) at Scandinavian Cultural Center, 206 Waltham Street, West Newton, MA 02465. For more information, please visit http://www.slcenter.org.
