DR PigeKoret to Perform at Museum of the City of New York —
Danish Girls’ choir comes to The Big Apple after being featured in “Nordic Cool” celebrations at the Kennedy Center.
The Danish American Society of New York with the Danish Chamber of Commerce and the Consulate General, working through Flemming Heilmann with the Museum of the City of New York, are presenting a unique concert by DR PigeKoret at the museum on Wednesday March 6th, 2013 at 7:30 pm. The Museum has donated its spectacular marble Atrium and adjoining halls as the venue. Consul General, Ambassador Jarl Frijs-Madsen will first welcome the choir to New York City , and the reception immediately after the 60 – 90 minute concert will give the audience a chance to mingle with the attractive, world class group of choristers.
Earlier in the week, the acclaimed girls choir will be in Washington to perform at the prestigious Kennedy Center as part of the “Nordic Cool” festivities being held in DC. The choir then visits the Danish Seamen’s Church in Brooklyn, NY, before entertaining the Greater New York audience assembled in the beautiful white marble halls of the Museum of the City of New York. For 70 years, the choir has been an integral element of Danish public radio – Danmarks Radio – long admired for its fine choral music and its very high standards. DR PigeKoret’s eclectic repertoire ranges from ecclesiastical works, Danish national compositions to the worldís pop songs of today and yesteryear, performed a capella or to orchestral and instrumental accompaniment. The 46 choristers, aged 15 to 21, are selected from talented girls growing up in every corner of Denmark in the course of a highly competitive process, with many members going on to a lifetime career in choral music. The organization also has its own full-time school. Grevinde Alexandra af Frederiksborg is the organization’s patron.
Tickets for the concert and reception (beer, wine and finger-food), at $35 for members and $50 for non-members, may be purchased by contacting Danish American Society of New York.
