Have you ever thought of hosting a Danish exchange student? Birgitte Lange searches for a host family for her daughter in the USA

Have you ever thought of hosting a Danish exchange student in the USA? Now is your chance.

Birgitte Lange writes to The Danish Pioneer Newspaper about searching for a host family for her Danish daughter and she has given permission to post her story here. She says, “I am a loving Danish mom of 47, living in Copenhagen. I just sent my 15-year-old daughter off for a year of high school in USA. She is going through the organization, EF Education First, which has its head office in Boston.”

Birgitte Lange adds, “My daughter was unfortunately not matched with her permanent  family when she arrived, just with a welcoming family. Someone who has agreed to take her in, so she can get a good start on her U.S. stay and start high school, all the while EF finds her the permanent family. My daughter would SO, SO much want to live in Chicago, or in that area. The organization EF can not guarantee her any state or city. I also think that they are very busy as a lot of students, like my daughter, are still waiting for their permanent family. So I will now try to see if I can help out a little and find a good, solid, sweet and happy family, in the Chicago area, who will find it exciting and fun to take in a sweet and happy young girl, for the rest of this school year. So until mid/end of June 2014.”

Birgitte Lange says, “My daughter Melina is going to the USA to experience this wonderful country and to live with an American family. But in my opinion, it is not important, whether the family has Danish genes, or even be partly or full Danish. She will get plenty of American influences from her friends, the school and just living in American surroundings, – in America. So I am not concerned at all, contacting you. But I am hoping that someone knows someone who will find it fun and challenging to host a young, pretty, sweet and very well-behaved straight A student from Denmark.”

As a host mom herself – through DIS Danish Institute for Studies abroad, Birgitte Lange is now hosting her 8th American student from Needham, Boston. “And I can only recommend it,” she says. “It is amazing to grow a bond to a young, eager and foreign person, – a bond that often lasts for many, many years. We are so close to many of our former students and have so enjoyed having them live with us.”

Would you or someone you know consider this great opportunity?

Birgitte Lange adds, “There MUST be a perfect family for my daughter in the Chicago area. I just have to find them. The Exchange is all through EF, and EF will have to find the school and get my daughter signed up. They also have to approve the host family. For any more information on hosting, I know EF will be most helpful.”

Birgitte Lange will of course be more than happy to tell much much more about her family, and especially about her daughter Melina. But she will wait, till someone hopefully shows interest. Birgitte Lange sends the very best, and warmest wishes from Denmark, and she can be contacted about EF, her own hosting experiences or for any additional information at E-mail:    birgitte.lange@hotmail.com
