In Memory of Pastor Best, The Danish Home of Chicago’s Chaplain for over 50 years

 

Reverend Doctor Warren Frank Best, 1931 – 2014 –

The Danish Home of Chicago and the Scandinavian community have lost a dear friend. Home with the Lord on January 9, 2014, Rev. Best was the son of Frank and Dorothy Best (nee Rebscher), born in Chicago, September 3, 1931.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy on December 25, 2000.

Rev. Best received many degrees: BA from Elmhurst College, Master of Divinity from Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminar, and a Doctor of Ministry from the Lutheran School of Theology.  In addition, he completed post graduate studies at Yale Divinity School in Connecticut and Saints John and Paul in Rome, Italy. Rev. Best was ordained on May 20, 1956 at Peace Lutheran Church in Chicago.

He went on to serve at the Norwood Park Lutheran Church from 1956-1986, served as Chaplain of The Danish Home from 1956-2013, and Pastored Christ Lutheran Church in Melrose Park from 1991-2013.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 2-6 pm at Benson Family Funeral Home., 3224 W. Montrose Ave. Chicago.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Norwood Park Lutheran Church, 5917 N. Nina Ave., Chicago, with interment to follow at Eden Cemetery in Schiller Park. For more info: 773-478-5800.

The Danish Pioneer Newspaper staff had the honor of knowing Pastor Best for more than 30 years and attending many memorial services at The Danish Home of Chicago, which he led with grace, love and dignity. His powerful voice and presence will be missed by all who knew him. All Honor to his Memory!
