Invitation to Viking Picnic at The Field Museum in Chicago on Saturday, July 25th, 2015

Hello Viking Friends – Come and enjoy this summer’s spectacular VIKINGS Exhibition at the Field Museum, 1400 South Lake Shore Drive in Chicago on Saturday, July 25, 2015. The Field Museum is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please visit the Field Museum website for additional information http://www.fieldmuseum.org/discover/on-exhibit/vikings/

The Danes are planning a social afternoon at the museum and all Scandinavians are invited to join us. The plan is that we all arrange our own transportation to and from the Museum, and everyone is free to roam the Museum on their own. We ask that everyone RSVP to Lars Rasmussen, mobile 630-699-0343 or e-mail larsrasmussen1@aol.com so that we can arrange for lunch table seating for all downstairs in the common area where we then plan to meet at 1:00 PM. After gathering, we will hand out menus and all will go and purchase lunch at one of the two bistros returning to the picnic room so that we all can enjoy lunch together. (Most meals at The Field Bistro & Corner Bakery Café are under $10.00, and Fountain Beverages $3.00.)

HELMET REPLICA: Finds of Viking helmets are very rare—even in Scandinavia—and none show any evidence of having horns. Though some depictions show men dancing or running in what look like helmets with horns, a closer look reveals the “horns” are actually bird heads. Such headgear was probably for ceremonial use, not battle. © Swedish History Museum (Photo courtesy of The Field Museum)

Ticket info: Adult Basic Admission $18.00, Child Basic Admission, $13.00, Senior Basic Admission $15.00 and Student Basic Admission $15.00.

To get into the VIKINGS Exhibit specifically though, people have to pay for the “Discovery Pass”, which is slightly more than the basic admission. The Discovery Pass, which includes the basic admission, is $25 for Adults, $18 for Children, Seniors $20 or Students $20.

The Field Museum also has something called “All-Access Passes” which gets people into everything and then of course some of you might already have Field Museum Memberships, so everyone’s circumstances will be different on what you have to pay.

For example, if you live in the City of Chicago, there is a discount or if you are seniors, children, students, etc.

Please see the Museum website http://www.fieldmuseum.org for family, group pricing and other offers or call The Field Museum directly at 312-944-9410.

The website has also parking information.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the VIKINGS Exhibition on Saturday, July 25th.
