Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement announces 125th Anniversary Gala in New York

Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement of Long Island City and its Board of Directors are proud to announce details for the organization’s 125th Anniversary Gala.  The business attire event will honor William T. Newlin, former Executive Director, Riis Settlement, Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, representative for Queens’ 37th district and Christine Sherwood, Managing Director, Citi Cards. Nine-time Emmy Award winning medical news journalist Dr. Max Gomez of CBS News will be the host for the evening.  The 125th Anniversary gala is Riis Settlement’s primary fundraiser for the year and will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Avenue (103rd Street), across from the Conservatory Garden of Central Park, New York City, NY 10029.

Along with raising much needed funds for its programs, this event celebrates Riis Settlement’s 125- year record of providing quality assistance to low-income New Yorkers, and particularly its last 64 years of service to greater Western Queens. It also will highlight the legacy of the namesake, the Danish-American photojournalist and social reformer Jacob A. Riis and special individuals, including the organization’s patron, HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark, who have made meaningful contributions to Riis Settlement and the constituency it serves.
