MADE by the Opera House is a visionary exchange program between Australia and Denmark

Each year, the Multidisciplinary Australian Danish Exchange – also known as MADE by the Opera House – gives five Australian and five Danish students of architecture, engineering or design the opportunity to work on a multidisciplinary project and undertake a study tour in the other country.
Strengthening the cultural and professional links between the two countries
MADE aims to strengthen the profound cultural and professional links first forged between the two countries through Danish architect Jørn Utzon’s World Heritage-listed masterpiece. Five Australians will travel to Denmark in January 2016 to take part in a six-week multidisciplinary project, working across the key fields that came together in the Opera House’s original construction. Each student will receive professional mentoring and coaching, as well as exposure to wide range of Danish organizations, architects, engineers and designers.

Meet the MADE supporters
The MADE by the Opera House exchange program is supported by Sydney Opera House, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Schools of Architecture, Design & Conservation), Arup, Steensen Varming, The NSW Architects Registration Board and three Danish foundations: The Bikuben Foundation, The Dreyer Foundation and The Obel Family Foundation.
About the Sydney Opera House
The Opera House is a masterpiece that belongs to all Australians. One of the world’s most recognized and celebrated buildings, it contributes significantly to the cultural life of the city. The World Heritage-listed Opera House welcomes more than 8.2 million visitors on site every year and hosts 1,800 performances attended by 1.4 million people. It is one of the world’s busiest cultural precincts.
About MADE by the Opera House
MADE by the Opera House is the Multidisciplinary Australian Danish Exchange for students of Architecture, Engineering and Design (in the Built Environment) in 2nd year or above. The program was established in honor of the Sydney Opera House’s 40th Anniversary celebrations in October 2013 and will run for ten (10) years to 2023. The completion of MADE will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Opera House. Each year five Australian students will be given the opportunity to travel to Denmark, and five Danish students to Australia, with 100 students participating over the decade. MADE by the Opera House will promote international and cross disciplinary interaction between students of engineering, architecture and design (in the built environment). As well as providing multidisciplinary experience for Australian and Danish students, the program will foster cultural links between the two countries. This is particularly fitting as it complements the role that Danish architect Jørn Utzon played in the innovative design and construction of the Opera House.
