National Danish Performance Team to entertain in Georgia on Saturday, March 14, 2015

The National Danish Performance Team (NDPT) started their U.S. Tour with a week in Houston, Texas. The team continued to New Orleans and will be performing in Atlanta & Marietta, Georgia on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

For more information, please visit www.daccusa.org and www.ndpt.dk. The team then moves on to Berea, Kentucky and Washington D.C.

After spending five months in Asia, Costa Rica and South America, the National Danish Performance Team arrived in Houston on February 25, 2015 – ready for five weeks on tour in America. The team with 27 of Denmark’s best gymnasts will do plenty of workshops and also perform the show ORBITA that has amazed more than 100,000 people since the team started touring in September 2014.

In Houston, the NDPT worked with Biron Gymnastics, Basel Gymnastics and Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center. The gymnasts taught and showed Danish gymnastics, played Danish games and showed children and young people that sport is fun and for all.

The gymnastic clubs in Houston work with display and performance gymnastics and really enjoyed the Scandinavian inspiration and the cultural exchange. At the end of the stay in Houston, the display team from Biron Gymnastics performed for NDPT and received critique from the gymnasts afterwards in order to get even better.

Unfortunately the planned outdoor show in Discovery Green was cancelled due to bad weather. Both the gymnasts and the hosts were very disappointed, since the park expected up to 3,000 people in good weather. Discovery Green has already welcomed NDPT back to do a show in the future, and hopefully the next NDPT will come back to Houston and Texas.

Danish host families

The Danish Club of Houston and the Danish Consulate were the hosts in Houston, where the team stayed with host families with Danish roots for four nights. NDPT hasn’t stayed with host families since Singapore during New Year’s and the gymnasts really enjoyed being at ‘home’ again. The host families took the gymnasts to NASA, Houston Rodeo, helped with laundry and served delicious Danish dishes and snacks.

“It has felt like being home again. They’ve really treated us well, served us Danish food and given us so much attention. Staying with host families also gives us a better chance of getting to know the country and the locals, and that gives us a completely different impression than when we’re staying at hotels or hostels,” says NDPT-gymnast Line Blirup.

Touring the US for five weeks

NDPT then continued to New Orleans, where the team spent two days with workshops before continuing to Atlanta for a week. Afterwards the team continues to Berea in Kentucky for a week before closing their US and world tour with six days in Washington D.C.
