New Play Reading at Nordic Heritage Museum Presented by the Norwegian-American Veterans Theatre Project on January 22
News courtesy of Sara Keats, Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle, Washington –
The Epiphany, a two-act play inspired by actual events and written by Dr. Bruce Olav Solheim, is set against the backdrop of Nazi occupation in the Kingdom of Norway during World War II. The Epiphany depicts a heroic, young woman’s struggle to keep her family together and uphold her dignity and honor against malevolent forces.
Over the course of the occupation, she demonstrates the power of the human spirit through self-determination and free will.
The play will be presented at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, Washington on Thursday, January 22, 2015 – For Info & Tickets, please visit: TheEpiphanyReading.eventbrite.com
The Epiphany is a powerful story dramatizing the sacrifices made and challenges faced by everyday women and men during wartime.
Marie, our lead, finds herself in a dilemma when she must house the highest ranking Nazi officer in her home, jeopardizing her estranged husband’s work as a resistance fighter. During the occupation, Marie transitions from passive citizen seeking self-preservation, to committed patriot working proactively to overthrow the yoke of Nazi rule under the eyes of the enemy. Symbolically, the house and its inhabitants can be viewed as a microcosm of the Kingdom of Norway during World War II, with each character representing opposing national viewpoints of this historic event.
A Norwegian combat veteran will be coming to Seattle to join the cast. This is part of the playwright’s Norwegian-American Veterans Theatre Project. The playwright would like to dedicate the performance to the members of the Resistance (i.e., Leif Thorkildsen, now deceased) and in living honor to Knut Einarsen who stills lives in Seattle and is a member of the Leif Erikson Sons of Norway lodge. This dedication will take place at a pre-show reception at 6:00 p.m.
The reception for the reading will begin at the Nordic Heritage Museum at 6:00 p.m., with the presentation to begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for Nordic Heritage Museum Members, students, and veterans. General admission is $12. More information and tickets available at TheEpiphanyReading.eventbrite.com.
