NEWS FROM DANISH STATISTICS: Green exports totaled 65 billion kroner in 2013
According to a newly released 2015 publication from Statistics Denmark, Danish companies exported green goods and services for 65 billion Danish kroner in 2013 – everything from thermostats and insulation to advice on wastewater management and optimization of energy consumption. The machine industry accounted for most of the tech market, especially in the form of windmills. Green goods and services amounted to 6.4 per cent of total Danish exports.
What does “green” mean? Green products and services are not just products that directly protect the environment, but also products which result in reduction of environmentally harmful consumption of natural resources. A freezer with low energy consumption or a high efficiency pump are thus in this context green goods.
Total production of 165 billion Danish kroner: While exports amounted to 65 billion kroner, Denmark produced 165 billion kroner overall in green goods and services in 2013. Almost half of the production, 79 billion kroner, was related to renewable energy, while sales of products that are designed to increase efficiency in energy consumption amounted to 26 billion kroner. The related environmental protection revenue was greatest on waste management and recycling with 17 billion kroner, and wastewater management with 14 billion kroner.
58,000 jobs: The production of green goods and services provides employment for 58,000 people, converted to full-time. Of those, two-thirds work with green products aimed at saving resources, while a third of the employees work with environment protection as their goal. 48 per cent of the “green” jobs are in the industry.
New Publication: The conclusions shown in Green Goods and Services in 2013, published January 19, 2015, can be downloaded for free at www.dst.dk/publ/groenvaretjeneste. It is the first time that Statistics Denmark publishes this publication.
