Nordic Female Vocal Quartet to perform in New York Aug. 10

Concert in Brooklyn, NY by Scandinavian Progressive Quartet – Åkervinda –

On Monday, August 10th, 2015, the Scandinavian East Coast Museum is proud to present a Concert by Scandinavian Progressive Quartet – Åkervinda – at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on the corners of Ovington and Fourth Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York.

The concert begins at 7:00 pm and the ticket cost is $15.00. This Nordic female vocal quartet was created in 2012 and is comprised of the following four women: Agnes Åhlund, Iris Bergcrantz, Hanna Grahm and Lise Kroner.

The group describes themselves as follows: Åkervinda, takes pride in their original and modern interpretation of the traditional folk songs of Scandinavia. The group’s name, Åkervinda, is inspired by a Swedish wildflower whose roots spread far and wide like rivers under the ground. Like the flower, gracefully entwining melodies, rock solid groove, and ever intriguing harmonies will take root in your mind. Like the flower, they will be impossible to remove”.

Jazz singers at heart, the young women of Åkervinda share a deep love of folk music. Through improvisation, the group gives new life to traditional folk songs and stories of women throughout the ages. This summer they are performing in Scandinavia, including the Aarhus Vocal Festival 2015. They will also be touring through parts of Canada and the United States.

The Scandinavian East Coast Museum is delighted to have them perform in Bay Ridge. They would also like to thank Bethlehem Lutheran Church for their generosity in allowing them to use their lovely sanctuary for this concert.
