Roskilde artist Lars Rasmussen’s art exhibition opens at Agora Gallery in New York City
Danish artist Lars Rasmussen Paints Roses as Symbols and Myth in NYC Art Show –
Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Roskilde artist Lars Rasmussen in Emerging Visions. The exhibition opens on December 29th, 2015 and will run until January 14st, 2016. The opening reception will take place Thursday, January 7th, from 6-8 PM. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
Danish figurative painter Lars Rasmussen has been obsessed with flowers – particularly roses – since he was very young. He sees them not only as flowers, but as symbols and myth. “After the first time I was stung by a thorn, I have tried to solve its mystery,” he says of the rose. Not only are his subjects alluring and iconic, allowing Rasmussen to explore the power of essential beauty independent from sentimentality, they contain many elements that connect symbolically to human themes. Their life cycle from bud to bloom to decay echoes the lives of humans, representing our connection to nature and the ephemerality of existence. Indeed, Rasmussen also frequently works with the human figure, drawing inspiration from Pre-Raphaelite and European symbolism.
A well-known portrait painter for over forty years, Rasmussen has had clients including the Danish royal family and the cathedral in Roskilde, his hometown. Like his heroes Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, and Francisco Goya, Rasmussen seeks to create art that is timeless and whose themes can speak across eras and cultures.
