1. A Nordic Valentine on Saturday, February 15th, 2014 at 7 pm in Nordic Hall
Swedish-American jazz singer Anna-Frida Abrahamsson and her trio share Swedish love songs and standards to warm a cool February night.
2. Finlandia Foundation presents a book talk with author N. H. Fennecus on Sunday, February 23rd at 3 pm in Nordic Hall
Author N.H. Fennecus will give a book talk: Kalevala inspiration in Dark Shaman Awakening – a mythic fantasy novel. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Visit N.H. Fennecus’ website or more information on the book.”
3. A Grand Celebration: Benefit Concert by Steinway Artist Michael Lewin on Friday, February 28th at 7:30pm
Join SCC for a benefit concert in celebration of the arrival of their new Steinway B grand piano. Steinway artist Michael Lewin will play music by Debussy, Chopin and Schubert. Reception to follow the performance.
4. Swedish-American Fiddler Brian Wicklund performs on Saturday, March 15th at 7:30pm
Minnesota Swedish-American fiddler Brian Wicklund hosts an evening of globe-trotting musical adventure.
5. “Of Trolls & Men: Music from 18th century Norway” presented on Saturday, March 22nd at 2 pm.
Folk songs, fairytale tunes, dances and sonatas from the mountains to the cities of Norway. Carol Lewis and Olav Chris Henriksen are two of America’s leading early musicians, whose unique repertoire and unusual range has led them to perform frequently in recitals individually and together, as well as with internationally acclaimed ensembles including the Boston Camerata, Hespèrion XXI, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Capriccio Stravagante, Waverly Consort, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. Critics have praised Duo Maresienne’s performances, noting their “dazzling technical virtuosity and passionate playing of gut-gripping intensity”.
6. “From Finland With Love: Marimekko in America, Past and Present” on Tuesday, March 25th 7pm
The SCC is proud to participate in Boston Design Week with a presentation about famed Finnish design company Marimekko offered by independent curator and researcher Susan Ward. Free. Reservations recommended. Email Christina to reserve your seat(s) at cmealey@slcenter.org.
7.The SCC & Scandinavian Library partner with Newtonville Books on Tuesday, April 1st at 7 pm at Newtonville Books, 10 Langley Road, Newton Centre.
