Start the journey of a lifetime with SKOVSØEN, the Danish Language Village in Minnesota
Congratulations to SKOVSØEN, the Danish Language Village of Concordia Language Villages on its 30-year milestone!
By Liz “Lis” Klages, Dean of Skovsøen
As Skovsøen has reached its 30-year milestone, alumni, current villagers, former and current staff should pause to reflect on what this experience continues to mean in their lives. Skovsøen is a special place where lifelong friendships begin! And so many of our villagers continue their learning and connections to Denmark long after they have been a part of a Skovsøen summer. The Skovsøen experience also broadens horizons, not only for travel to Denmark and the “real” immersion experience, but also builds self-confidence, leadership skills, and the desire to understand about other cultures and global connections.
The next generation of Skovsøen villagers has begun to take part now, but to keep us strong, alumni need to continue their support so that this Danish language and cultural experience continues to thrive and provide the heritage foundation that so many villagers have enjoyed over so many years.
Whether villagers experience Skovsøen year after year, or spend only one summer with us, the experience ignites in them a passion for further learning and global exploration. Many of our villagers and staff continue their Danish interests as Scandinavian studies majors in college or through folk high school programs in Denmark. This summer, a former villager and staff member is spending her summer on the DIS program in Copenhagen, and a current credit villager is extending her study of Danish in Oure, Denmark, on the Oure Global Summer program, which will also include cultural, cooking, sport and performing arts experiences. Another current credit villager will be traveling with family all across Denmark, from Århus to Randers to Fyn and on to Copenhagen, and even take in the Roskilde Music Festival. And a ten-year Skovsøen villager is extending his global reach by participating in the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies tour of Spain, performing at the International Granada Music and Dance Festival.
Enroll your child or grandchild for a Skovsøen experience!
