Summer Stroll – a Culture Wave brought to you by BRACA – is planned for Friday, August 7, 2015 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York.

6:00 – 6:30 – Paulom and Aeilushi – Aeilushi and Paulomm will be conducting and performing a participatory Garbaa folk dance of Gujarat, India. Garbaa folk dance is a community dance performed in circular formation. The claps of Garbaa dance mark the pulse of the rhythms that are played on kutchhi dhol drum. Come and join us for this fun and exhilarating community dance.

6:35 – 7:00 – Swedish Meatball Ellen Lindstrom on Accordion – The accordion is a very versatile instrument, as evidenced by its popularity throughout the world. This evening Ms. Lindstrom will be focusing on its place in Scandinavian music. Polonica – 7214 Third Avenue
7:05 – 7:25 – Clann Eireann Pipe Band was founded in Bay Ridge in 1930. The band is the oldest continuous Pipe Band in the United States. A few of the band members will be playing a selection of Irish tunes and United States Military tunes. Hot Bagels – 7017 Third Avenue
7:30 – 7:50 – The Ridge Creative Center – Chalk Art – Chalk art has been used to create temporal works of art on urban streets for over a century. Tonight make your own small piece on paper. Next to Cangiano’s – 6931 Third Avenue
7:50 – 8:30 – YDIR – Young Dancers in Repertory – This evening YDIR will take you around the world through dance. The youth will perform: a Ribbon.Dance-China, Tarantella -Italy, Maypole Dance – Sweden, and other ethnic dances. They will be joined by Aielushi & Paullom – Bharatnatyam from India, Jaclyn Ramos – Zumba Demo and Justin Weber – Circus Arts

8:40 – Sheltered Past Pop Up Exhibit, Curated by Jeannine Bardo is set in a historic carriage house. This exhibit calls artists to share stories and experiences from the past – imagined or real, belonging to others or to themselves – in a setting that evokes what has come before but still lingers. This exhibit is part of STAND, an artist-run and artist-funded project committed to artists and community brings unique art experiences to the public. Location: 2 Bay Ridge Place (Exhibit to be held behind home in carriage house at 218 Bay Ridge Avenue)
