The Danes lead in online contact with public authorities

DKStats-LogoThe Danes are good at communicating with the public authorities online compared to the rest of the European Union, according to Statistics Denmark.

81% of Danes between the ages of 16 and 74 visited websites of public authorities. It is a significantly higher proportion than the EU average, where 37% of the population has visited a public authority on the web.

As of November 1, 2014, it becomes mandatory for the Danes to communicate with the public authorities online. Digitalization means goodbye to the old-fashioned paper letters and hello to online mailboxes. When all communication in the future will be digital, then it is necessary for the Danes to be familiar with the Internet and its functions.

Among other things, the use of NemID will be crucial for the Danish digital communication with the public authorities. In the book “IT use in the population in 2014”, published on October 27, Statistics Denmark says among other things that 91% of Danes have already signed up for NemID.

The publication was prepared in cooperation with the Digitalization Agency, Ældre Sagen and the Business Authority. It contains new information about Danish online behavior and the equipment they use when they, among other things, check emails or communicate with the public.

“Use of IT in the population in 2014” throws light on Danish internet users:
* 38% of Internet users – or 1.6 million users – have refrained from providing any personal information to social media for safety reasons.
* 67% the Danes who use the Internet have a profile on a social media. Most choose Facebook.
* More men than women read the news on the phone, while women more often log on to social media.
* 27% of Danish women between 65 and 89 years have never been online. The older men are slightly better. Only 18% of men in the same age group have not yet had their online debut.

“It-anvendelse i befolkningen 2014” kaster blandt andet lys over at:
