The Danish American Center Education Committee in Minneapolis is establishing new joint programs with Shift, a Twin Cities Non-Profit Organization
According to news from the Danish American Center in Minneapolis, the DAC Education Committee is pleased to announce a new collaboration between the Danish American Center and a Twin Cities non-profit organization called SHiFT.
Both organizations have the same mission: lifelong learning. As you probably know, Denmark developed the very first Folk School in 1844, based on the belief that a democracy requires an informed citizenry to thrive.
SHiFT’s tagline is “Navigating midlife transition.” That becomes even more important as more and more members of the Baby Boom generation enter their 60’s.
What Is SHiFT?
The SHiFT community connects individuals making midlife transitions; people who seek greater meaning in life and work. Some members want encore careers that combine income with personal meaning and social impact. Others want to volunteer their experience and skills as a way of giving back to the larger community. SHiFT serves as a compass to help midlifers navigate these transitions.
How DAC and SHiFT Benefit
Danish American Center will provide space for SHiFT workshops, study groups, etc. Members of both organizations will be able to attend these free of charge, or at a healthy discount. Members might also collaborate to create new programs and projects which could enrich themselves and their communities.
SHiFT space rental will provide revenue for DAC. SHiFT members will be exposed to DAC’s magnificent facility, and the programs that the DAC offers. DAC members will find support for their own life and work transitions. And not the least, DAC adds another service for Seniors as its charter requires.
DAC believes that it’s a win-win proposition.
Want to learn more about SHiFT? Consider attending, free of charge, the next SHiFT Forum on September 9, 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at Minnesota State University-Mankato at Edina (7700 France Avenue South, Edina, MN 55431). You’ll hear more about the collaboration, and what SHiFT can offer.
Visit SHiFT’s website at www.shiftonline.org to read more, and to register for the Forum.
The Danish American Center is located at 3030 West River Parkway South, Minneapolis, MN 55406. For more information, visit www.dac.mn
