Top Royal Danish Ballet dancers to perform in New York on January 13 – 18, 2015 at The Joyce Theater – Order Tickets Now
A group of 11 elite dancers from Den Kgl. Ballet (the Royal Danish Ballet) of Copenhagen, led by Solo Dancer Ulrik Birkkjaer, will be performing at The Joyce Theater in New York for a short season in mid-January 2015. The tour commences with opening night performances on Tuesday, January 13th, after which a reception will be held at The Joyce for qualified ticket-holders and VIPs, who will have an opportunity to meet the dancers. This reception is supported by the Danish Consulate General. Please direct inquiries to The Joyce Theater.
On Monday evening, January 12th, the acclaimed Danish ballet scholar, author and critic, Erik Aschengreen, Dr. Phil., will be giving a talk at Scandinavia House, hosted by the American-Scandinavian Foundation. This presentation will be a most appropriate and interesting introduction to the important Danish ballet events taking place at the pre-eminent venue for dance in New York City. The Joyce has been renowned for three decades as the New York home to international, national and New York-based dance companies performing important, culturally diverse and challenging ballet at world class level.
Sixty years after The Royal Danish Ballet’s U.S. debut, principals and soloists from this internationally renowned company will perform a fantastic program featuring excerpts from works by August Bournonville, the acclaimed 19th century Royal Danish Ballet choreographer and ballet master who created more than fifty works for the company. A highlight of the Joyce season, this engagement promises to be a memorable one.
It will be an important week for Danish culture in New York City.
The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10011, Phone 212-691-9740 or visit www.joyce.org.
