UNIQUE DANISH FUNDRAISER: ‘CHAIR-ity’ Fundraiser Benefits Danish Windmill in Iowa

The Danish Windmill in Elk Horn, Iowa held its 4th annual CHAIR-ity Fundraiser at their Windmill Gala on November 2, 2013 at the Cottonwood Barn in Kimballton, Iowa with about 100 guests in attendance.

Local residents had transformed new and used chairs that were auctioned off at the CHAIR-ity event. For the fundraiser, the Windmill accepted donated chairs that included everything from rocking chairs to dining chairs, outdoor chairs, barstools and more. They were new or old, and then painted or decorated with a theme and accessorized.

Due to everyone’s imagination and creativity, worn out chairs are turned into a work of art! Mill Board Member Jana Boettger had a “Skål Chair”.  Other examples were a “Cedar” chair, a “Postage Stamp” chair, and other surprise themed chairs along with donated items, such as an Æbleskiver dinner for 6, a summer picnic for 6, and many other fun items.

Participants at the 4th Annual Gala paid only $20 per person and enjoyed a Danish dinner, followed by the CHAIR-ity auction and program.

Proceeds of the auction were used for Windmill debt retirement and to help the funding of the Windmill Endowment.
