Please mark your calendars for Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. for the Opening Reception of “Søren Kierkegaard: The Global Dane” featuring a performance of EITHER & OR – Søren Kierkegaard in 2014, with Kierkegaard interpreter Claus Damgaard.
The Danish American Center will present an exhibit on the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard in the first floor display hall from May 22 to June 22, 2014. The exhibition, prepared in Denmark for the bicentennial of Kierkegaard’s birth, consists of 16 panels covering both the history of his life and his work.
For the opening reception on May 22, the Danish American Center will have a very special event: A performance by the Danish Kierkegaard interpreter and communicator Claus Damgaard. His approach to Kierkegaard is both humorous and informative.
OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS: Sunday, May 18: 3 PM – THREADS OF HOPE: Caring for Babies Across Three Continents – Book Signing by DAC Member-Author Dr. Martha Aas
Her memoir traces the story of a woman doctor, a Danish immigrant, and of the evolution of neonatology in northern Minnesota. Dr. Aas, a pioneering woman and physician, tells of how and why she became a physician, reveals the fascinating process of starting a neonatal unit in Duluth, and tells touching and dramatic tales of caring for her tiny, vulnerable patients and their parents.
In retirement, she has worked in Cameroon in Africa. She reflects on her frustrations of working in a developing country, and on her worry about being able to fully help her patients there.
Please join the Danish American Center for a reception after the presentation. Sponsored by the DAC Reading Circle.
Looking ahead: Sunday, June 1, 2014 is Danish Day. Rain or shine. Please plan to be at the Danish American Center that day, and on Saturday, June 21 at 7:30 pm, the Nordic Singers Concert will be held at nearby Minnehaha Academy Theatre.
