Vejle Sports Academy welcomes international students for a half gap year in Denmark
Dina Knudsen is reaching out to Danes and Danish-Americans in the United States, because she is interested in building up a stronger international environment at her school – Vejle Sports Academy – which is a folk high school emphasizing sports in Denmark.
International students make a valuable contribution to the enhancement of international awareness and exchange of cultures at the school which is valuable to widen the perspective for the students.
In the past, Vejle Sports Academy has had very good experiences with students aged 17½-25 who in advance have some ties to Denmark – e.g. because of Danish family roots. At the school they spend a “meaningful” half gap year strengthening their ties to Denmark. All while they get to do over 20 different kinds of sports/various subjects.
A “højskole” is a good way to get to know more about Denmark and Danish culture, because the school focuses on developing social relations and personal competencies in a very social and supportive environment by challenging the students on their life perspectives. And it is an easy way to get a network and learn the language.
