By Nicky Christensen, Museum of Danish America

The University of Iowa’s Old Capitol Museum has opened an exhibit, The Land Provides: Iowa’s Culinary Heritage, in its Hanson Humanities Gallery. The exhibit explores Iowa’s rich culinary history, agricultural techniques, and people from its early years of statehood.

In October, a representative from the Old Capitol Museum filmed current Museum of Danish America Intern Marianne Frøsig Sørensen preparing a number of traditional Danish dishes in Elk Horn for use in the exhibit. Sørensen is trained as a chef and describes herself as a “foodie.” She prepared bread, meats, salads, condiments, sandwiches, and desserts for the camera.

The exhibit will run through August 1, 2015, but those not able to see it in person can view the video footage online at http://bit.ly/landprovides.

The Museum of Danish America is located at 2212 Washington Street, Elk Horn, Iowa 51531. Phone 712-764-7001 or visit www.danishmuseum.org.
