VIDEO: Take an Aerial View of The Danish Villages in Iowa created by Pastor Keith Menter

This Memorial Day Weekend brings TIVOLI FESTThe Danish Villages’ annual Danish celebration – to Elk Horn and Kimballton, Iowa.

What’s new at TIVOLI FEST 2014? There will be a LEVERPOSTEJ CONTEST on Sunday, May 25 (made famous by Mayor Stan Jens and the Documentary “Denmark on the Prairie Return to Elk Horn”).

With the new growing phenomena of beers made in Iowa, there will be an IOWA CRAFT BEER TENT featuring Iowa Craft Beers, Carlsberg, along with a few domestic beers located at the new Elk Horn Fire Station.

Enjoy the Danish tradition of RINGRIDNING, held for many years at Sønderborg Castle, which has been adapted from adults riding horses to children riding decorated bikes! Youngsters bring their own bike (decorated of course!) and a helmet.

Come see the new SCULPTURE GARDEN in Kimballton and see the new bronze statues commissioned from artist Troy Muller from New Century Art Guild to depict more of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. These new statues surround the Little Mermaid with a local number to call to hear a synopsis of each story.

Or how about a HUMAN LIFE-SIZE LEGOLAND GAME at the Elk Horn Library or new WATER BOWLING Firemen Competitions?

Traditionally, you can also enjoy Danish foods and specialties such as smorrebrod, aebleskiver and medisterpolse. Tours of the Danish Windmill, Bedstemor’s Hus, The Museum of Danish America and visits to unique gift shops add to the experience. Including the annual Tivoli parade, Tour de Tivoli, an entertainment stage and vendors, there is something for everyone! The Danes of Kimballton have been folk dancing since the town began. It is the longest lasting activity of our Danish heritage.

Tivoli Fest 2014 is taking place on the weekend of May 24th & 25th. The 34th annual celebration is themed “Denmark on the Prairie, Let the Festivities Begin”.
