Danish American Athletic Club
The Danish American Athletic Club (DAAC) in Arlington Heights, Illinois was founded by a group of Danish immigrants in 1922 and is patterned after similar organizations in Denmark. The objectives for which the DAAC is originally formed is to act as a center for preserving and uphold Danish culture in America through maintaining classes in the Danish language, gymnastics, folk dance and other cultural subjects as required or needed for the purpose of strengthening the bonds between residents of Danish descent in America. The objective is also to further expand the cultural relations with other Scandinavian ethnic groups in the United States and to act as a source of information in academic studies of the cultural impact of Danish immigration to the United States of America. Any person interested in the “objectives” of the DAAC is eligible for membership, but must be sponsored by a member in good standing. Currently the DAAC offers Danish language classes, Gymnastics for children & Food Social Evenings for the entire family, Danish Movie Nights (with English subtitles), Fastelavn’s Party, Spring Luncheon with Danish Open-Faced Sandwiches, Golf & Biking Outings, Anniversary Party, Family Christmas Party, Glogg & Aebleskiver Party and more. Dania Society of Chicago
Dania Society of Chicago reached a remarkable milestone on Saturday, October 20, 2012 as more than 100 members and guests celebrated the organization’s 150th anniversary in red-and-white elegance at Monty’s Banquets in Bensenville, Illinois. Dania Society of Chicago is an Illinois Corporation organized to promote and support social, cultural and traditional activities among persons of Danish heritage, and to promote, support and honor the relationship between Denmark and the United States. Additionally Dania is organized for pleasure, recreation and sociability. Dania has come through its first 150 years with flying colors, and inspired by its past and mindful of its rich heritage and culture, Dania can and will meet the challenge of the next 150 years. The Danish American Language Foundation
The Danish American Language Foundation was established in 1976 in commemoration of Denmark’s participation in the American Bicentennial Celebration and in connection with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark’s visit to the USA. The Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of Illinois in 1975 and the Foundation received tax-exempt status in 1976. The Danish American Language Foundation was founded to help preserve the Danish language in the United States. This work is done in numerous ways by lending financial support to the Danish newspapers in the United States, to Danish language camps, and to Danish language classes and teaching books. The Danish American Language Foundation also offers scholarships for both pre-teens and teens who wish to learn Danish or to improve their Danish language skills.
